Alarming Video Shows Instant Law Enforcement Get Knifed in Ambush
One senior officer who jumped to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a traffic accident in that location in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Policeman knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashcam video made public by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.
He struck the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, concluding the fight to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide something on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his throat and further injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.
Officials said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to control his fellow officer's bleeding before emergency responders came.
This most recent recognition follows after the trio of policemen were granted departmental Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local Police Federation in April 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The efforts of all three officers ultimately rescued each other and ensured no civilians suffered any injuries."
Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, according to the department.
