A teenage boy was found dead only a few days following being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that her son had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from educational staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his family said they did not receive that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead investigator told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
